What determines foreign language placement?Īll students who have studied a foreign language in high school for three or more years who wish to continue in that same language must take the Foreign Language Achievement Test. NOTE - If you have applied test optional or self-reported your score, you must submit official scores to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions prior to being placed in a math course.

If you have a qualifying score and would like to challenge your current math placement in order to place into a higher-level course, you may take the Accuplacer math placement test. If you do not have a qualifying SAT or ACT score or high school GPA you must complete the ALEKS-PPL Math Placement Test. Math Placement is determined by your SAT or ACT score or your high school GPA and major. Scores will be available to students in their ODU email. Those students who score a "1" will need to register for a section of ENGL 101 and its corresponding section of ENGL 110C (6 credit hours). Transfer students are eligible to take the WSPT as a diagnostic tool by contacting Mary Beth Pennington, Director of Writing Support at or you are a transfer student who has received credit for ENGL 211C, 221C, or 231C but not ENGL 110C, contact Mary Beth Pennington, Director of Writing Support at or as you may be eligible for a WSPT waiver. Transfer students with credit for ENGL 110C are exempt from taking the WSPT. Students who do not earn a passing score on the WSPT will be required to enroll in ENGL 101 alongside ENGL 110C Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurshipĭo I have to complete the Writing Success Placement Tool?Īll undergraduate students who have not earned credit for ENGL 110C through dual enrollment, Advanced Placement (AP), the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) or transfer from another institution are required to earn a passing score on the Writing Success Placement Tool (WSPT) to be cleared to enroll in ENGL 110C or ENGL 126C without the corequisite course, ENGL 101.
